The Bell of Two Roads

The Problem (from Reddit)

Inspired by a DMAcademy post about the party splitting and half the group dropping into combat, this one-shot makes the split the point of play and gives the table a dramatic way to reunite around a shared objective.

The split party is one of those classic table disasters that feels manageable right up until half the group is deep in consequences and the other half is sitting idle, annoyed, or confused. This one-shot takes the exact moment the table fractures and reframes it as a controlled crisis. Instead of apologizing for the split or rushing to glue everyone back together with nonsense, you turn the problem into the adventure. The city itself seals the party apart, both halves are forced to matter at the same time, and the reunion only happens if the players learn to treat distance as a tactical puzzle rather than a punishment. Problem It Solves This module is built for the session where the party splits and the split immediately gets messy: one side wanders off, one side triggers combat, and the DM is left trying to juggle spotlight while everyone wonders whether the session is ruined. The core fix is to give both halves one shared clock, one shared objective, and one dramatic reunion point. The party still suffers consequences for separating, but no player is reduced to waiting forty minutes while somebody else has all the fun. The split becomes a structure you can run on purpose. Setup Drop this module in any city, fortress district, magical bazaar, or undercity where the party could plausibly separate for good reasons. It works best...
